The commission appointed by Governor Barbour to study the state tax code has begun meeting. The governor wants the commission to look at the total tax burden experienced by Mississippians, including federal and local taxes, to determine what changes need to be made in the state tax code so that the overall tax burden is not detrimental to job creation and growth.
I have the privilege of being on the commission, and I would welcome your suggestions. If you have ideas for changing the rates or exemptions on sales tax, income tax, excise tax or any other tax, or even how state taxes are collected, I would like to hear them. Of course, I don't speak for the commission, but as a member of it, I'd like to have as much input as possible from the people who pay taxes. I'll compile the suggestions I get and forward them to other commission members.
